Volunteer

At Central Point School District 6, we encourage our families and community members to support our students by volunteering. There are a variety of ways to serve as a volunteer. Examples of volunteer opportunities are field trips, fundraisers, chaperoning dances, helping in classrooms or coaching. Please call your school’s office to inquire if you are interested in volunteering. Regardless of how much time you have or how many students you serve, the impact is significant!

Each day in every school, volunteers support and encourage staff and students, take an active role in helping every student achieve. Through their contributions of time, energy, inspiration and expertise, volunteers often report that they receive more than they give.

If you are interested in volunteering in the schools, please read the following guidelines. These procedures will help us to provide a safe and secure volunteering experience at our schools. We appreciate your support in following them.

Volunteer Guidelines:

School volunteers serve at the request of and under the supervision of school staff members, within an open public space, and should be within sight or sound of a staff member while working with students. Volunteers must never be asked to supervise or manage a classroom.
Volunteers are responsible for maintaining a professional attitude of mutual respect and confidence. Their cooperative attitude expressed in the willingness to provide services is highly valued and appreciated.
All volunteers shall register in the district’s online volunteer management system which records the initial application, placement and hours of service.
Volunteers should wear a volunteer ID name tag while volunteering at school.
Be punctual and reliable.
Notify the school in case of an absence.
Practice the professional ethics of confidentiality (not discussing teachers, students or school affairs at any time).
Be willing to offer supportive and supplemental service under professional supervision and direction.
Be capable of adjusting to each teacher’s individual style and following his/her directions.
Be willing to have short conferences periodically to allow for a more rewarding volunteer experience.
Set a good example of appearance and behavior for students.

Contact the school’s volunteer coordinator if you are not satisfied with your placement or are having other difficulties regarding your role as a volunteer.
The district reserves the right to place and remove volunteers from service in the district.

How to Get Started

Fill out the online application.
For the safety of our students, any person authorized by the district for volunteer service will be required to undergo an Oregon criminal records background check prior to volunteering and then every two years thereafter. It can take up to two weeks for your application to be approved. Your volunteer status is good for two years, at which time you will need to renew it by filling out a new application.
Check your email for approval status. Once the steps above are completed, you will be notified via email if you have been approved. Please check your spam folder just in case. You should then notify the school so that they can work with you on when you will be needed, etc.
