Student Support Services

Crater High School offers a comprehensive support system with multiple layers to help our students be successful, healthy, and happy. This comprehensive support system is designed to address all aspects of your child's education and well-being.

We recommend that all Crater students download the StudentVue, Canvas, and StudentSquare apps to their phones. Students can access links to these programs on their computer or Chromebook by visiting https://chs.district6.org/students/student-apps

Parents/Guardians can also download ParentVue, ParentSquare, and Canvas apps. We use these apps to communicate critical information to students and families, to notify you about your student's attendance and grades, and much more.  Visit https://chs.district6.org/families/parent-apps for online links to the programs and support using the apps.

If your student struggles in a class, your first point of contact is the teacher. All staff emails follow the same format: firstname.lastname@district6.org. Our school counselors play a crucial role in providing support to students. They are assigned based on the student's last name and can assist with a variety of issues, including attendance, behavior, and other support needs. In addition, we have La Clinica Counselors and a La Clinica Health Center on campus, further enhancing our support system. The health center offers a range of services, including immunizations and general health care. Students can easily make an appointment by visiting the La Clinica office on campus.

SafeOregon is a school safety tip line created for Oregon students, parents, school staff, community members, and law enforcement officers to report and respond to student safety threats.

Additional Ways To Support Student Success

Communication:

We are committed to clear communication between students, families, teachers, and administrators. Email staff - firstname.lastname@district6.org -  with questions, problems, or concerns. ParentSquare is the high school’s main communication tool. CANVAS is the primary way to access classroom assignments and see your student’s grades. Synergy ParentVUE and StudentVue is the high school’s official gradebook. D6 Parent Apps support is available to get you connected: https://chs.district6.org/families/parent-apps

Time Management:

It is crucial that students arrive to class on time and attend office hours for additional help. Students are encouraged to create a system to keep track of assignments. We recommend that students schedule time every school day to complete their work prioritizing what needs to be done based on importance and urgency. Students should log in to their Gmail and Canvas accounts daily. Canvas is where most teachers post assignments, where you turn them in, and where teachers post grades. You can get help by watching our technology tutorials at https://chs.district6.org/students/tech-tutorials.

Foundations & Health:

At CHS we value positive relationships, setting SMART goals, academic achievement, and social-emotional health and wellness. Student supports are built into Freshman Focus, PE & Health Courses, Academic Learning Lab, Credit Recovery, ELD Lab, Oregon Career Information System (CIS), 9th Grade Teams, The Comet Center, 9th Grade Academic Success Coordinator, and office hours.

Eating a good breakfast each morning is just as important as arriving to school on time.

Breakfast and lunch are free for all Crater students, and many delicious options are available on campus. Monthly menus and other nutrition information can be found on the Food Services page of our website. All freshmen must stay on campus during lunch. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can leave campus at lunch with permission from parents/guardians. Students who are repeatedly late returning from lunch may lose their off-campus lunch permission. Please discuss what you'd like your 10th-12th grade student to do during lunch as a family. Do you want them to leave campus? Are they allowed to ride in cars with other students? Students must make safe choices during lunch, return to classes on time, and be ready to learn.

Regular School Attendance:

Consistent student attendance is a vital indicator of student success. It is crucial that you are at school and actively engaged in learning every day. If you are not able to attend, a parent/guardian should contact our attendance office at 541-494-6315 to excuse the absence. For more information, please visit https://chs.district6.org/families/attendance

Students who are involved in extracurricular activities are more likely to feel connected to the school. Crater offers a variety of ways to get involved on campus. Visit the Activities page (https://chs.district6.org/activities) on our website for more information. If you want to participate in a Crater sport or club and need more information, you can talk to the secretary in the Athletics Office, across from the front desk.
